Some days I just don’t feel like it

In March 2020, at the start of Lockdown 1.0, my wife and I started an exercise regime. We bought two yoga mats and started exercising. We’ve done yoga, HIIT, tabata, battle ropes, pressups, squats, lunges … you name it, we’ve done it! Almost 20 months later, we’re still at it. But you know what? Some days I just don’t feel like it. Do you know the feeling?

I just don’t feel like getting changed to exercise. I don’t feel like pushing out those pressups or lunges or burpees. Urggghh.

But I do it. We do it. Because we know that, as difficult as it is, if we don’t do it, we’ll slip back and all our hard work will have been in vain. We’ll start to feel stiff again, lose strength, put on weight… So we press on (and up!).

It’s a bit like my work. I’ve been in IT for over 35 years now, almost 14 years working with Kerridge products, in particular their brilliant K8 ERP system. I’ve written thousands of reports, built workplaces, dashboards, provided training, stayed in hotels, been up at 4am to drive hundreds of miles and, some days, I just don’t feel like it.

It can be a struggle, making calls, leaving messages, sending emails then chasing for answers. Urggghh.

But then, I remember why I’m doing it. I actually enjoy it! Having my own business can be super difficult but also super rewarding.

Just recently I spent a day on site with a client working through an area of functionality that was new to them. The next day I got an email thanking me for my time and saying how excited they are about what we’d gone through and the positive impact it’ll have on their business. It was a fantastic email. And it reminded me, that’s what I’m about. Making people’s lives a bit easier, even if it is through the use of something virtual like software.

I have a great relationship with my clients. I love calling them up and having a chat, shooting the breeze and then maybe just giving them that little tidbit of information that’ll help them along, that they weren’t aware of before. That’s what I ike and that’s why I do what I do (as well as it pays the rent of course!)

So, why don’t you give me a call, see if there’s something I can do to help you, to make your day that little bit easier.

Now … pressups or lunges?
